ELENA BEHARRY, Psy.D
I am a licensed psychologist who specializes in trauma and PTSD and work with people in New York City and throughout New York State. I have 20 years of clinical experience helping young adults, parents, women and BIPOC with the unique challenges they face.
Currently I work full-time at John Jay College in the Wellness Center as a counselor and provide individual counseling, conduct psychological assessments/ intakes, and provide crisis intervention to a diverse student body. I also provide supervision to graduate externs both Master’s and Doctoral level, and train clinical staff on how to work with individuals who have experienced trauma. Furthermore, I provide workshops for staff and peer leaders on stress management, self-care, and emotional intelligence. In the past, I coordinated and supervised the group program which has become an integral part of the services we provide at the Counseling Services Center. In addition, I have worked as an adjunct professor for several years and have taught both undergraduate and graduate level courses including the Internship/Field Work course of Mental Health Counselors in training.
Educational credentials include a BA and MA from Manhattan College and an MS and PsyD from St. John’s University. In addition, I also have post-graduate training at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy (ICP) – 2 years and a third year Advanced Master Course in trauma for which I presently serve as an assistant in the small group practicums. Additionally, I am EMDR trained Levels I & II and am currently pursuing certification.
