It’s time to create the life & relationships that you deserve.

Welcome to Haven Mental Health Counseling:
Trauma Informed Therapists on Long Island and New York

Right now, you may feel tired, overwhelmed, and stuck in a cycle of disappointment. It may be hard to figure out who you are and make sense of how to share what you feel, while on the outside things seem “fine”. You can’t figure out why your relationships keep leaving you feeling empty or alone. Whether it is personal, professional or both, you don’t have to carry the burden of figuring it out by yourself.

We are a diverse group of therapists who want to offer an affirming, culturally competent and ultimately safe space to work through the good, the bad, and the ugly. Our work is trauma informed, which means that we consider the impact of your life experiences to help you make sense of where and why you feel stuck, be it professionally, romantically, or socially.

We work with you to recognize your strengths while also getting deeper into the patterns and cycles that you’re looking to shift. Our work together goes beyond talk therapy to understand the roots of your thoughts and behaviors so that you can make changes that help you create a more fulfilling life that feels aligned to who you are and the future you want to build.

Our team is guided by the principle that therapy should provide a safe haven where you can rest assured that you will be heard, respected, and understood. While we provide honest and genuine feedback and support, we also understand how important it is to have a therapist who understands where you’re coming from in terms of culture, religion, race or other minority status.

At Haven, we believe that you deserve a therapist who can provide individualized care that is tailored to your needs, in a non judgemental and confidential space. We are a group of therapists from diverse backgrounds, faiths and cultures, who take into consideration the entirety of who you are. When you choose to work with any one of us, you can feel confident that you’re working with someone who truly sees you and can work with you with where you are in your specific journey.

We understand the push and pull that family, culture and religion can have on our growth and perceptions of ourselves. While our lived experiences help us understand these things first hand, our extensive training in trauma informed practices equips us to come to each session without expectations or assumptions about your unique situation. We understand that no two experiences are alike, so we work alongside you to understand your struggles, break the cycles that are keeping you stuck and uncover your strength so that you can build the thriving life and relationships that you want.

What’s it Like to Work With us?

At Haven Mental Health Counseling, we approach every client and every session with a sense of genuine curiosity and compassion, creating a space where you can truly feel like you are not being judged, no matter the circumstances. Our clients often tell us that they appreciate the openness, realness, and kindness of our therapists. We believe that you are the expert and the author of your own story, and that we are here to help you write it in a way that feels best for you.

We understand that therapy is an extremely personal experience. We welcome questions before and during therapy on our methods and are happy  to discuss our multifaceted approach that is tailored to your needs and goals. Our methods include:

CBT

An evidence based approach that focuses on understanding and managing the relationship between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Somatic Therapy

A therapy that examines the relationship between the mind and body. Based on the belief that the body holds trauma, this therapy is most well known for treating PTSD, but can also be used to deeply explore and treat anxiety and stress disorders.

EMDR

A commonly known, evidence based treatment for PTSD, EMDR is utilized to process painful experiences, address triggers and tap into the brain's innate capacity to heal.

IFS/Parts Work

A non pathologizing approach to understanding the parts of oneself. A modality used to treat anxiety, depression, trauma as well as dissociative disorders.

Gottman Method Marriage Counseling

Based on the best selling book “The 7 Principles of Making Marriage Work”, this therapy provides a structured approach to marriage counseling. This therapy helps move couples past conflict to building friendship, shared meaning, and deep connection.

You don’t have to keep doing this alone.

Why Haven?

A haven is a place for safety or refuge. We value safety for all people and approach each individual with compassionate curiosity. We believe that compassion, curiosity, collaboration, and safety, are the foundational pieces for supporting each and every client as they develop awareness and move towards wholesome healing. We understand how personal it is to get therapy and want this space, in person or virtually, to be a place where you can put aside all the pressures of having to hold it all together while trying to figure out who you are and how to break free of your struggles. Haven MHC is a place where you can come as you are, and feel confident that you will get the support you need to create your own peace.
